SALT LAKE CITY — One person is dead in a shooting involving police, as officers were responding to a weapons call in Salt Lake City's ballpark neighborhood Friday night.

Salt Lake City police detective Michael Ruff said officers responded to a home on Lucy Avenue on a report of someone with a weapon around 6:30 p.m. At some point after police arrived, an individual "came out of a residence with a weapon in their hand of some sort," according to Ruff.

He said at least one officer discharged a weapon, and the individual died at the scene.

Police did not confirm any further details about the incident or what type of weapon the individual had. An officer-involved critical incident protocol team will handle the investigation.
