THE BEACH — As someone who can't get in the shower until the mirror is sufficiently foggy, I've always been jealous of dogs for their ability to jump into rivers, lakes and streams seemingly impervious to the frigid water.
While I'm still standing in ankle-deep water adjusting to the temperature, dogs have already been playing in the water for hours.
But, apparently, not all canines are so unbothered by cold water.
On a trip to the seashore in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom, in May, a whippet followed her friend into the surf, only to immediately realize she wasn't up for the cold.
After diving headfirst into the water, she immediately turned around and hopped out of the ocean on her back legs to keep her belly dry — a maneuver that feels all too similar to my reaction if I try to walk into the ocean too quickly.
