SALT LAKE CITY — One person was hospitalized Friday evening after fire broke out at a five-story Salt Lake City apartment building, officials said.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department said crews responded to Romney Plaza, a senior living facility located at 475 E. 900 South, where the fire started in a bottom unit.
Salt Lake City Fire Division Chief Bob Silverthorne said it was initially reported that the fire may have been started by a lithium-ion battery, though that has yet to be confirmed.
Silverthorne said crews were able to determine the origin of the fire, and it was contained to one room.
"They got in, made a quick stop on the fire, and then we just kind of worked back from there to see if there's any injuries," he said.
Five people were evaluated for medical attention, one of whom was transported to a hospital in serious condition, according to fire officials.
