DRAPER — Artists of varying skill levels are invited to submit their best work to be showcased later this summer during the Draper Visual Arts Foundation's annual Art in the Barn art show and sale.

The event is open to fine artists, ages 18 and up, who specialize in paintings, sculptures, pottery, and photography.

Happening Aug. 21 and 22 at the Day Barn at Draper Park, selected artists will have the opportunity for their work to be displayed and to meet people attending the art show who may be interested in buying their art.

Emily Dunn, a board member for Draper Visual Arts Foundation submissions, said submissions will be narrowed down to approximately 50 artists, with selections based on the quality of the applicant's artwork and its appropriateness for a family-centered community.

While Art in the Barn is an ideal way for seasoned artists to have their work displayed, Dunn said it's also a good opportunity for those just getting started with the craft.

"This is a great opportunity for local artists — we're not exclusive to the highest paid, (or) you know, the most prolific artists out there. We like to have local artists and give them a chance to show their work,' she said.

For more than 30 years, the Draper Visual Arts Foundation, a nonprofit, has worked to conserve, promote and celebrate art in the community. With the exception of 2020, Dunn said the organization has held an art show annually for a decade, though it was given its current branding in 2018 — and it continues to grow.

"One exciting thing that happened in the last four or five years is that we started having more artists outside on the lawn," she said. "Like when it began it was only in the barn, which made it much more limited."

The venue allows artists to display their work in the barn and the outside tents.

The two days will also include food trucks, musicians and children's activities.

Submissions are being accepted through Monday, June 15; those chosen to be in the art show will be decided by a committee and notified by June 30.

While there is no fee to submit an application, those selected will be asked to pay an entrance fee, which will depend on their assigned location.
