WEST JORDAN — A child died after a driver fled from a police officer and later crashed early Saturday in West Jordan.

At 1:30 a.m., a South Jordan police officer was initiating a traffic stop in the West Jordan area when the vehicle fled from the officer, West Jordan police detective Chris Reyes said. Soon after, the vehicle crashed with another car at the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Old Bingham Highway.

A child in the vehicle that fled died in the crash. The vehicle's other occupant was taken to Primary Children's Hospital, Reyes said.

The adult driver of the other vehicle in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital and was stabilized, Reyes said. That driver's condition was not released. No identities or ages of those involved in the crash were released.

West Jordan police continue to investigate the crash scene Saturday morning.
