LEEDS, Washington County — A semitruck driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries after a rollover crash south of Leeds on Thursday, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
UHP Sgt. Mike Alexander said about 4:42 p.m., officers responded to a rollover on northbound I-15.
Hurricane Fire and Rescue, which also responded to the crash, said the driver was trapped inside the cab of the semi and had to be extricated.
"Due to the prolonged extrication, Intermountain Life Flight was requested to assist with transporting the patient to St. George Regional Hospital," the department wrote in a news release Tuesday evening.
Alexander said the semi was hauling dairy rolled, and it leaked into the dirt surrounding the roadway.
The crash forced closures of the northbound lanes for a time, but they have since reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
Fire crews also worked to stop a fuel leak from the semi and address the dairy product that spilled.
