SCIPIO, Millard County — One person was killed and four others injured in a multivehicle crash that forced the closure of northbound I-15 in Millard County for several hours Monday.

The crash occurred before 8 a.m. several miles south of Scipio, and the interstate was closed several miles south of that near Holden. It reopened after 1 p.m.

Utah Highway Patrol said a semitruck pulling a box trailer and a flatbed trailer lost control on the icy roadway, left the roadway to the right and struck a cable barrier. The semi came to rest sideways, with both trailers blocking the highway.

"Three vehicles struck the semi, resulting in several minor injuries and one fatality," UHP said in a statement.

Video footage captured by a driver on a frontage road after the crash shows a semitruck with a trailer perpendicular to the roadway and blocking all lanes.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the person killed.
