TAYLORSVILLE — A motorist was seriously injured after crashing into a McDonald's restaurant early Saturday, police say.

At around 1:40 a.m., the man was driving into Taylorsville from Kearns, when he crossed a median heading west on 5400 South. The driver traveled through the intersection at 4015 West, struck a power pole, the business sign for Take 5 Oil Change, before striking the McDonald's at 5400 S. 3900 West, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Ryan Carver.

The driver was ejected from the car, which caught fire, and he suffered serious burns and other injuries.

No information about the driver has yet been released. He was taken by medical helicopter to University of Utah Hospital.

The man was not believed to have been wearing a seat belt, Carver said, adding that due to the debris field and initial analysis, speed is suspected to be a factor.

Estimates on the damages to the businesses were not released.

This story will be updated.
