COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A man was found dead in a burning car Wednesday morning, according to the Unified Fire Authority.

Unified fire officials said callers reported a fire in the parking lot of the Santa Fe at Cottonwood apartments, 1550 Fort Union Boulevard, shortly after 11 p.m. Crews arrived and found "a fire outside of a car that spread to the vehicle," according to a prepared statement.

Firefighters found the man's body in the car. Assistant Unified Fire Chief Paul Brenneman identified the victim only as a 31-year-old man and said investigators had notified his family of his death.

Cottonwood Heights Police Department and Unified Fire Authority investigators are in charge of the case and, so far, do not believe any suspicious activity was involved.

Total damages include two vehicles and a carport.
