THE NEIGHBORHOOD — I was in Africa years ago when I had my first mongoose encounter. Walking along a trail in the forest, I kept hearing skittering sounds behind me. I'd stop and look around, but nothing was visible. This continued for at least five minutes.
Suddenly, a mongoose popped out of the bushes and started crawling toward me. It looked nervous but seemed unable to control its curiosity. After stopping a short distance away from me, it simply watched me until I continued on my way. At that point, it followed along until I reached my tent.
I was reminded of that friendly fellow when I saw this video.
One mongoose was enough of a surprise for me in that African forest. But can you imagine how wild it would be to see a dozen mongooses trying to come into your house? Wait, is it mongooses? Or is it mongeese? Or mongi?
Either way, these animals are truly one of a kind.
"The local banded mongoose troop is determined to break down the door so they can make a beeline to the kitchen," explains the post. "However, they had a bit of a surprise when I opened the door and stuck a cellphone in their faces. Still, curiosity and maybe food brought them back! Real bandits."
Yep. That's my experience, as well. You can spook a mongoose. But it'll always come back for more.
