DROPPED AT THE GOAL LINE — Sports fans in Utah know the story all too well after the infamous Kaelin Clay incident against Oregon in 2014.

The football player confidently approaches the end zone with no doubt the touchdown is secured, but it takes a turn and an all-but-certain score is suddenly thrust into question.

"Did the ball come out before he crossed the goal line?"

The answer to that question was "yes," not once, but twice, during the NFL Sunday slate last week.

The first instance was the most bizarre, with Cincinnati Bengals safety Jordan Battle recovering a Tennessee Titans fumble only to lose the ball himself seconds later short of the goal line.

A few hours later, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor found the edge against the Denver Broncos but let hubris get the best of him with a premature drop.

Neither ended quite as comically as the Clay one, when Oregon's Joe Walker recovered the dropped ball and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown in the opposite direction.

The ball rolled into the end zone and out of bounds for both Battle and Taylor, resulting in a touchback to turn the possession back to the opponent.

If any of these players held onto the ball just a second longer, it's an easy 6 points, as it should have been.
