PROVO — Married Brigham Young University students will soon have more housing options, with the university set to build 11 new apartment buildings at the Wymount Terrace on-campus housing area, according to a release from BYU.

Wymount Terrace, a staple of student housing on BYU's campus, serves married students and students with dependent children.

But, constructed in 1962, it's getting quite old.

"Wymount Terrace has served BYU student families for more than 60 years. This investment will help ensure that those who call Wymount home continue to have an affordable, supportive environment where they can thrive," Steve Hafen, CFO and administration vice president at BYU, said in a statement.

But before the 11 new buildings can be built, the university said it will demolish nine existing buildings on the south section of Wymount Terrace.

The 11 buildings set to replace them will include 240 apartment units ready for families, with the new, three-story buildings featuring two- and three-bedroom apartments.

"This project aims to enhance living facilities and the overall student experience while fostering Christ-centered communities," Todd Fischio, director of residence life at BYU, said in a statement. "In the future, families will have access to affordable, conveniently located, energy-efficient and well-maintained apartments."

Construction will begin in July, with the university eyeing two years for completion.

Wymount joins existing BYU student housing projects underway.

In December 2025, Utah-based home builder Cole West announced the acquisition of the site of the abandoned Park Plaza apartments, 910 N. 900 East, adjacent to BYU's campus and within easy walking distance.

The three-story apartment building — built in 1965 and containing 44 units — is also set to be demolished and replaced with new units.

While the development is still in its early stages, the firm added that it is working with city officials and community representatives to ensure it aligns with municipal goals.

"Our focus is on creating long-term value through thoughtful planning, sustainable design and exceptional execution," Walker Wood, vice president of development at Cole West, said. "We're confident that this location presents a unique opportunity to set a new standard for student housing in Provo."
