SANDY — Canyons School District on Thursday announced classes at Alta High School are canceled amid police investigating a SafeUT tip containing "information that is being taken as a threat."
"The decision to cancel classes Thursday is being made in an abundance of caution and hopefully will ease the minds of families who were concerned about the tip sent to the school," the district said in a statement. "We recognize these circumstances may cause worry or anxiety in some students. When classes resume, counselors will be available if your student needs to process their thoughts and feelings."
The district added that AP testing scheduled for Thursday will be rescheduled and that information about the make-up testing day, as well as a make-up day for missed classes, will be sent at a later date.
Additionally, the district said more information will be coming regarding the status of athletic competitions that were scheduled at Alta High School on Thursday afternoon.
