CEDAR CITY — A man in southern Utah was arrested Tuesday night and accused of stabbing a man multiple times.
The investigation began about 10:25 p.m. when police were called to a trailer park near 1027 N. Main. Officers arrived to find a 55-year-old man outside his trailer "suffering from multiple stab and cut wounds," according to a statement from Cedar City police.
The man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. Police were unable to find the attacker and sent out a reverse 911 call to residents, warning them to be on the lookout.
Early Wednesday, a neighbor called police and said the suspected stabber, 34-year-old Arturo Jose Borges, was seen entering another trailer, police said.
"Due to the seriousness of the incident and concerns for public safety, the SWAT team was activated, and nearby residents were evacuated as officers secured the area. A search warrant was obtained, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident," according to the statement.
When police got Borges to exit the trailer, his "hoodie was covered in cattails which would be consistent with hiding in a field throughout the night evading law enforcement. Officers interviewed (Borges) and he stated, 'I did the crime, it was me, I did it,'" according to a police booking affidavit. At that point Borges didn't want to speak anymore.
He was arrested for investigation of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault. A motive for the attack remained under investigation Wednesday.
"This, by all appearance, was a nonmotivated crime that resulted in serious bodily injury to another," police wrote.
Officers say Borges is "homeless" and originally from Florida.
