BALLARD, Uintah County — A Uintah County man charged Wednesday with stabbing his son is now facing additional charges after investigators say they learned the incident was just the latest in an ongoing trend of domestic violence.
Emmette Cordell Cesspooch, 37, was arrested Sunday and charged Wednesday in 8th District Court with two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and making a threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor. All charges come with domestic violence penalty enhancements if convicted.
On Sunday, the man "got angry with his adult son and stabbed him with a screwdriver in his ribs. The defendant then went into a residence with his son and continued to assault him by hitting him" and told him that he was going to kill him, according to charging documents.
The man then "grabbed his son's football helmet and began striking him with it" and again threatened to kill him, the charges state.
When police responded to the residence, they received information that the man may have also pointed a gun at the son's mother. When asked whether she had had a gun pointed at her, she told police, "not recently," a police booking affidavit states.
Cesspooch's family was interviewed more in depth after his arrest and allegations of abuse were revealed dating back several years, according to several affidavits filed Tuesday.
In one incident, the woman said Cesspooch pointed a gun at her face, then "moved the gun away from her face and fired one round into the mattress. The shot that was fired was close enough to the victim's head that she lost hearing in her right ear. She stated that after the shot was fired, (he) then put the barrel against her right eye. The barrel was still hot from the round that was fired and it burned her eyelid. This left a scar on her right eye and caused internal damage to the tear duct," the affidavit states.
On another occasion, Cesspooch "again grabbed a handgun and pointed it at her head. She stated that (he) told her to walk to the window and tell her two sons that were outside goodbye because he was going to kill her," the affidavit alleges. "On several occasions (he) told the victim that he would kill her, her kids, and her entire family and making statements that a protective order is only a piece of paper and that won't stop a bullet."
One of the man's sons "told me during the interview that (the man) has been beating him his whole life. He stated that when (the man) and he are fighting, (the man) will tell him that he is going to kill him, and that if he tells the cops he will kill him, his mom and brother," according to another affidavit.
The younger son, likewise, recounted incidents of being punched by his father, and hit with a pair of pliers and a torch that he was forced to clean his blood off after, a third affidavit states.
In addition to his formal charges, Cesspooch is now being held in the Uintah County Jail for investigation of 18 additional charges in three cases, including multiple counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury and child torture.
