ST. GEORGE — Firefighters responded to a fire that spread to five homes in St. George on Saturday.

The blazes occurred along North Dixie Downs Road, at 1526 North and 1574 North. Police said two of the homes were on one street while three were on the other.

St. George Fire Chief Robert Stokers said they received the call about a fire in a carport garage around 10:50 a.m. By the time the crews arrived, heavy winds had spread the fire to four other homes.

All home occupants evacuated safely. Some individuals were treated for smoke inhalation and burns, but Stokers said no one was taken to the hospital.

Stokers said two of the homes are total losses, with the other three heavily damaged. He was unsure if they could be salvaged on Saturday.

Santa Clara, Ivans and Washington City fire crews all came to help support St. George fire crews.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
