LOGAN — A man died Friday morning after fleeing police in a vehicle, hitting a tree after police shot at him.

Cache County sheriff's deputies attempted to stop Roger Dean Campbell, 48, near 1500 West and 600 South in Logan at 9 a.m., according to a Logan police news release.

According to police, Campbell had violated a protective order that was issued after he had been arrested and charged with domestic violence offenses.

Campbell fled the scene in his vehicle, according to police. The sheriff's deputies shot at Campbell, and Campbell crashed his vehicle into a tree.

Officers on scene rendered medical aid, paramedics arrived and continued lifesaving efforts, but Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Police did not say whether he died from gunshot wounds or from the crash into the tree.

The Northern Utah Critical Incident team has been activated, and an investigation is underway.
