- Col. Dan Cornelius emphasized prioritizing resources for critical operations as the reason.
OGDEN — Hill Air Force Base announced Tuesday its biennial Warriors Over the Wasatch Air Show will be postponed due to "critical, ongoing operations."
Initially planned for the end of June, the 2026 Warriors Over the Wasatch Air Show will now be pushed back to June 19-20, 2027. The base said the decision came after a "thorough review of operational commitments" and is "a direct result of the need to prioritize resources for critical, ongoing operations."
The 2026 show was expected to include special celebrations to mark America's 250th anniversary.
"This was not the outcome any of us hoped for. We know this news is a great disappointment to the community partners, performers, and thousands of supporters who make this event a success," Col. Dan Cornelius, 75th Air Base Wing commander, said in a statement. "We are committed to delivering an exceptional experience, and it became evident that with current constraints, we could not guarantee the quality and scale that defines the Warriors Over the Wasatch show and that our community deserves."
Postponing the show is "the most responsible course of action at this time," the base said. Base leadership will remain focused on supporting the airmen and their families while meeting all mission objectives, the base's statement said.
"The unwavering support from our Utah community is invaluable, and we are profoundly grateful. Our commitment to this event remains, and we have turned our focus toward bringing the air show back (next year)," Cornelius added.
Utah Air Show Foundation executive director Kevin Ireland said while it is disappointing to postpone, the foundation is "100% here to support Hill AFB and their mission, which will always come first."
On March 5, the base posted a confirmation that planning for the annual airshow was moving forward as normal "despite speculation circulating," but said if any changes occur, it would communicate them promptly.
Although the air show has historically been held during even years, the air show will switch to odd years following the show in 2027, according to a Hill Air Force Base spokesman Kendahl Johnson.
Correction: A previous version stated the air show is annual, whereas it is biennial.
