SOUTH JORDAN — One person was arrested, and police are searching for a second person after a man was killed in an overnight shooting in South Jordan.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police located a 34-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds near 11500 S. Copper Stone Drive, South Jordan police said in a statement.

Police administered medical aid, and the man was taken to a hospital, but he died from his injuries. The man's identity has not been released.

One person was taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, police said.

Kevin Charles Scarbourough, 38, was arrested for investigation of murder, according to a police booking affidavit. People still on scene of the shooting notified police that it was Scarborough who brought the shooter to the residence, the affidavit states.

According to the police affidavit, Scarbourough and the victim had gotten into a physical fight in the backyard of the residence. The fight was broken up, but then another altercation started inside the home. People on scene told police the argument appeared to be gang-related, the affidavit said.

"Once this was broken up, Kevin and the shooter left the residence out toward the front and (the victim) walked out front as well. A witness on scene heard Kevin instruct the shooter to shoot (the victim), which the shooter replied 'I don't wanna go to prison' and then Kevin again told him to shoot (the victim) and then shots rang out," the affidavit states.

In an interview with police, Scarbourough said he had arrived at the scene in an Uber with the suspected shooter, according to the affidavit.

"Kevin also stated everything was fine until he went to the bathroom and then came out and it was 'chaos,' but he could not describe what this meant. Kevin said he was hit by someone or something, and only remembers running out of the house and then being detained by police later," the affidavit says.

Scarbourough claimed he did not see anyone with a gun and denied being involved in the murder, police said.

Police said the second person of interest has been identified, and they are following leads to locate him.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the public. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department.
