OGDEN — Police shot and killed a man early Friday.

Members of the Ogden Metro Gang task force converged on Motel 6, 1206 W. 21st Street, at around 2 a.m. in an attempt to apprehend a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated robbery that occurred three days earlier in which an individual was robbed at gunpoint, said Ogden Police Chief Jake Sube.

"The suspect is a known white supremacist gang member with an extensive criminal history," Sube said. "As officers approached the suspect, he fled on foot."

During this pursuit, the man "produced a firearm," prompting two members of the task force to shoot him.

"He sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital," Sube said, adding that one of the task force members sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg but has since been released from the hospital.

The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.

Sube said additional information will be released as it becomes available.

This story will be updated.
