OGDEN — An 18-year-old man was arrested in Ogden over the weekend and accused of killing his girlfriend's two kittens.

Edwin Sebastian Chavez was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of two counts of aggravated cruelty to an animal, assault, aggravated assault, marijuana possession, intoxication and being a minor consuming alcohol.

Ogden police were called Saturday night to a residence on a report that an intoxicated Chavez was fighting with his family and had killed one of his girlfriend's cat. When officers arrived, Chavez punched his brother in the face in front of them, according to a police booking affidavit.

Officers then "observed two lifeless kittens in a cat bed located in the garage. Fresh blood was observed on the floor of the garage," the affidavit states.

Witnesses told police Chavez became upset with the kittens for urinating on a cat bed.

"It should be noted that officers responded to a report of Edwin stealing the victim's cats in the past after having an argument. It was reported that Edwin had stated that she was next after killing her cats and (the 911 emergency dispatcher) confirmed that she overheard someone in the phone call yell, 'I'm going to kill you,'" according to the affidavit.

Police say Chavez assaulted his girlfriend and tried to suffocate her after he allegedly killed her cats.
