PROVO — BYU football added to its 2025 recruiting class Saturday a former Stanford signee and one of the top linebackers in Utah.

Westlake's Nusi Taumoepeau, a four-star linebacker by 247Sports, committed to the Cougars to open the weekend, stating simply on social media: "I'm home."

Taumoepeau originally signed with Stanford, bringing the San Francisco native who prepped in Saratoga Springs back to the Bay Area after a recruiting cycle that included California, Utah, Oklahoma State and the Cougars, among others.

But when the Cardinal fired head coach Troy Taylor following allegations of bullying and belittling female athletic staffers, per ESPN, Taumoepeau looked elsewhere.

The school hired former Colts and Panthers coach Frank Reich on a one-year deal as an interim coach, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. When Taumoepeau, among other recruits, asked out of his national letter of intent following the coaching change, the Cardinal granted it.

Taumoepeau totaled 130 tackles and 16 sacks in three seasons of varsity football, including 88 stops, 12 tackles for loss and 13 sacks as a senior at Westlake. He was rated the No. 3 overall prospect in Utah and No. 19 linebacker in the country en route to his second straight all-region honor and first-team all-state award by the Deseret News.

He also saw time at running back, notching 361 yards and eight touchdowns on just 37 carries for the Thunder.

Taumoepeau's addition is the 23rd commitment of BYU's 2025 recruiting class.
