ST. GEORGE — Two men recently appeared in federal court for sentencing, including a California man indicted following his arrest with 24 pounds of suspected methamphetamine in June, while the second was sentenced for weapons and unlawful entry into the United States.

On March 5, 59-year-old Ramon Amador Zapien, of Bellflower, California, appeared in U.S. District Court in St. George for sentencing on one federal count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Zapien was indicted in federal court following a traffic stop in Washington on June 3, 2024, when an officer pulled a black BMW over for suspected traffic violations.

During the encounter, a K-9 was deployed and alerted to the possible presence of narcotics. During a search of the car, more than 24 pounds of suspected methamphetamine was recovered from the trunk of the vehicle.
