NEW ORLEANS — While Utah supposedly has the greatest snow on earth, Mother Nature has been spreading the precious white fluff to brand new areas this week.

News Nation meteorologist Max Tsaparis posted a video of almost a dozen people enjoying the unexpected weather with a snowball fight on the infamous Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

The snow is thanks to a polar vortex that blasted Utah with cold air earlier this week and many Southern states with snow.

The "once-in-a-generation" storm has been wreaking havoc on the Gulf Coast — a region wholly unaccustomed to winter weather. Snow fell from southeast Texas through Louisiana and into parts of Mississippi and Alabama Tuesday, creating dangerous conditions.

The NBA and multiple college basketball conferences postponed games in response to frigid weather patterns that led to broken snowfall records in some southern states and coated others with a mix of snow and ice.

Utah, on the other hand, has experienced a stark lack of snow this season. New Orleans received more snow this week than Salt Lake City has received all season.

As someone who loves the snow, I am glad the people of New Orleans are getting to experience the joy of an impromptu snowball fight. But I do hope Mother Nature turns around and brings more snow back to Utah so I can go skiing with my dad.
