KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • RootsTech 2025 will focus on the theme "discover" and runs March 6-8.
  • Keynote speakers include Ndaba Mandela, Dana Tanamachi, and Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall.
  • In-person Family Discovery Day is free, with online attendance also available.

SALT LAKE CITY — Last year, FamilySearch encouraged people around the world to "remember" at the annual RootsTech family history conference. This week it announced the theme for this event, also just one word — "discover."

"A single word that communicates endless possibilities and inspirational experiences for those who participate," the announcement says.

RootsTech is the largest family history conference in the world. Hosted by FamilySearch, the family history website sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, takes place March 6 through March 8 this year, both online and at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City

The church announced earlier this month that Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Kathy Andersen, will be the keynote speakers for Family Discovery Day, an event on Saturday. The event will feature live music from The Piano Guys and activities for all ages, both of which will also be streamed live.

For those attending in person, attendance for Family Discovery Day is free and includes art projects for kids and classes designed for youth by John and Kim Bytheway and T.C. Christensen. There are also multiple virtual activities.

Other keynote speakers at the 2025 RootsTech include:

  • March 6: Ndaba Mandela, author, speaker and grandson of Nelson Mandela, who will share a virtual message spotlighting "the multi-generational story of the Mandela family," according to the announcement.
  • March 7: Dana Tanamachi, an artist whose work has been featured on the covers of magazines and a U.S. postal stamp.
  • March 8: Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall, the Olympic gold medal couple who went viral for their encouragement of one another in the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Registration for the full three-day conference is $129, and a 1-day pass is $79; online attendance is free. To register, visit familysearch.org/en/rootstech.
