SALT LAKE CITY — Police were seeking suspects Thursday in at least six recent acts of vandalism and burglary involving cars in an eastside Salt Lake City neighborhood.

According to Brent Weisberg with the Salt Lake City Police Department, the crimes took place near roughly 800 East and Belmont Avenue.

A homeowner shared a video with KSL-TV showing one of the vandals, believed to be a teen, stomping and kicking at the windshield of an SUV outside the homeowner's garage on Dec. 28. 2024.

"It appears that there are at least three teenagers who have been going around the area of 800 E. Belmont Ave. and trying to break into cars by smashing out the windows and then stealing things," Weisberg said.

Weisberg said detectives do not yet know who the teens are, but officers are working with their counterparts at local schools in hopes of identifying them.

"This is certainly something that's caught our radar," Weisberg said. "We're very fortunate in this case that there are cameras that captured some of these individuals."

Weisberg said anybody in the neighborhood who has experienced damage to their cars and has not reported the matter to police should do so.

He also urged people in general to make their cars "showroom clean," essentially keeping them empty of valuables and other possessions as a deterrent to burglars.
