PARK CITY — A woman was hit by a vehicle in front of Park City High School Thursday and later died at a local hospital, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Catalina Alvarado Lopez, 55, of Park City, was crossing Kearns Boulevard near Cooke Drive at about 7:15 a.m. when she was hit by a pickup truck, troopers said. She is survived by a son and daughter who also reside in Park City.

"Catalina moved to Park City over two decades ago, choosing to raise her children in this beautiful small town because it reminded her so much of her hometown in Michoacán, Mexico. She was drawn to the town's four distinct seasons and its warm, tight-knit community — qualities that made her feel at home, even far from her native country," according to a GoFundMe* campaign started to help cover funeral expenses and to raise money for her children.

"A selfless, hardworking woman, Catalina dedicated her life to her children. She made countless sacrifices, always putting their needs above her own. Her unwavering love and commitment to her family were evident in everything she did. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, attending weekly services, where she found comfort and strength in her faith," the GoFundMe states. "Catalina's love for her family extended beyond our borders—her deep ties to Mexico were a source of pride for her, and she carried the spirit and traditions of her homeland with her every day. She was a fierce protector of her children and would go to any lengths to see them thrive."

The Park City School District says multiple students witnessed the incident and that support is available for those who need it.

"Mental health coaches are available on-site at Park City High School and throughout the district to support any student or staff member who may need assistance processing this difficult event," the district stated.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.
