SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man was arrested Wednesday and accused of robbing people living in an RV in Salt Lake City.
Salesi Tuatonga, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon by a restricted person and aggravated burglary.
Just after 4 a.m. Wednesday, police say two men with rifles entered an RV near 950 S. Gladiola Street and demanded money at gunpoint from the occupants.
"The subjects took money from the wallet of one victim. The subjects then took two butane canisters and a lighter from the RV as they were leaving. Before exiting the RV, the subjects advised the victims not to follow or they would shoot them," according to a police booking affidavit.
Detectives were able to track down the suspected intruders' vehicle at the Towers on Main apartments, 1810 S. Main, using license plate reader technology.
"In plain sight, officers viewed two rifles, a butane canister, and rifle magazines," the officers who looked inside the vehicle noted in the affidavit.
While checking out the vehicle, Tuatonga was spotted leaving an apartment by a police drone and was detained.
"Detectives executed a search warrant on the subject vehicle and apartment. Items matching those stolen from the RV and firearms used in the commission of the crime were located," according to the affidavit.
Police said the robbery "matches that of at least one other incident in the same area from a month prior," the affidavit states.
The investigation into the second gunman continued Wednesday.
