SOUTH JORDAN — A Utah man was arrested over the weekend and accused of biting part of another man's ear off during a fight.

Eric Roy Brown, 33, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail early Saturday for investigation of mayhem and two counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.

A fight broke out at a residence near 3700 West and 114000 South, according to a police booking affidavit. Officers arrived to find the alleged victim bleeding from his face and "a piece of his ear was missing," which was later found "next to Eric wrapped in clothes."

"(The man) had significant injuries, including the missing part of his ear, a nasal fracture and bruising around his neck with what appeared to be fingerprints on the right side of his neck," the affidavit states. "(He) furthermore had multiple bite marks on their back from Eric. (The man) told (police) that Eric was attempting to gouge (his) eyes. Eric was using his fingers and then proceeded to (choke the man)."

Police said in the affidavit that Brown "had to be sedated due to his aggressive nature toward law enforcement ... as well as his obvious intoxication level."

The victim was taken to a local hospital but was later transferred to a second hospital because he "needed advanced medical care due to his injuries."
