ST. GEORGE — Officials have identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash with a Washington County sheriff's deputy on Sunday.
The deputy, who was in a marked patrol car, was responding to a report of a separate rollover crash on Old Highway 91, west of St. George and Santa Clara, on Sunday afternoon when the collision with the motorcyclist occurred. Details about the crash have not been released.
The motorcyclist, Daniel Jack Monfore, 33, of St. George, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was treated at a local hospital and was later released. The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said the deputy's emergency equipment was activated when the "head-on" collision occurred.
"We know there are many questions about last night's motorcycle and patrol truck collision," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook Monday afternoon. "The exact facts of the collision will be found by the highway patrol, which is why we cannot release those specific details.
"The Washington County Sheriff's Office expresses our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and everyone impacted by this incident," the department said.
