HOLLADAY — A man with a history of violence is accused of attacking two men in separate incidents, including shooting one of the victims in the leg.
Kelly Pierre Andrews, 49, was charged on Wednesday in 3rd District Court with shooting a person causing serious injury, a first-degree felony; being a restricted person in possession of a gun, a second-degree felony; and aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, both third-degree felonies.
He was also charged on Wednesday in a second case with aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony.
On Nov. 18, Andrews got into an argument with the stepdaughter's boyfriend at their apartment, near 1800 East and 5000 South. During the argument, Andrews pulled a gun out of his waistband and shot the boyfriend in the leg before then pointing the gun at his stepdaughter and telling her, "This is your fault!" according to charging documents. The stepdaughter's 9-year-old daughter was present during the shooting.
"The victim was observed bleeding heavily from his leg, officers applied a tourniquet and the victim was transported to the hospital," the charges state.
Andrews ran from the scene but then "began threatening family members throughout the day" as detectives tried to track him down, a police affidavit alleges. He was eventually located in Murray and arrested.
That incident followed one on Oct. 13 in which Andrews got into an argument with another man, according to charging documents that stem from his other case.
"During the argument, Andrews grabbed a chain with a large metal lock attached to one end and started hitting (the victim) in the head multiple times," the charges state. "(The victim) sustained a large cut to his head that required 14 staples to close and later required surgery for bleeding in his brain."
Andrews has a lengthy criminal history and, at the time of the shooting, was on parole and wanted by Adult Probation and Parole. He made headlines in 2018 for backing a pickup truck into his ex-girlfriend's car and her new boyfriend. He was convicted in that case of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
