HEBER CITY — Four people accused of assaulting multiple people in several incidents have been arrested.
According to Heber City police, beginning in the late summer, officers "responded to multiple calls involving a group of self-proclaimed gang members. This group had, on multiple occasions, violently assaulted multiple people in multiple incidents throughout Heber City. The group had also used brass knuckles and firearms in some of the assault incidents."
On Tuesday, the Wasatch County/Heber City SWAT team, with assistance from the Summit County Sheriff's Office, served three search warrants and took one man and three boys into custody. The ages of the boys were not immediately released.
Yael Parra, 18, was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault, threatening to use a weapon in a fight, committing a violent offense in the presence of a child, making a threat of violence and marijuana possession.
According to a police booking affidavit, one of the incidents the group was allegedly involved with happened on Nov. 14. On that day, officers responded to an assault near 145 S. 100 West in Heber City and found two boys with non-life threatening injuries who had been assaulted by a group of four others, according to the affidavit. One victim "ended up on the ground and was being stomped on and punched by the suspects."
Police were shown a video posted to Instagram that captured some of the incident and observed one of the attackers "had a handgun in his right hand which he used to strike both victims in the head," the affidavit states.
Parra was identified as one of the alleged attackers in the video and was arrested. Police say the group could face gang enhancement penalties when formal charges are filed by the Wasatch County Attorney's Office.
