THE FRONT PORCH — One kitten's escape from a pack of coyotes and the ensuing defense of a family's front porch gained her a permanent spot in the family.
"She let out a very mighty hiss and she was able to scare off a pack of coyotes," the family's daughter, Jasmine, said. "When we saw footage the next morning, we went out and we started looking for her."
Luckily, she wasn't far away, and the family was able to take her in, as shown in this video.
The vet didn't find a chip in the 7-month-old kitten, and the family said the kitten adjusted to her new environment really quickly despite spending all of her fresh life on the streets.
"It was no question to me or my mom that we wanted to keep her, but my dad said, 'We're not keeping her. She's so sweet (and) we'll make sure that she finds a loving home,'" Jasmine said.
As is the case with many fathers who are initially reluctant to a new pet, he quickly took a liking to the kitten, talking about potential names for her. That's when the family knew the kitten, which they named Chai, would become a permanent fixture in the family.
Chai even started bonding with the family's other cat, Mocha, as the two are shown playing and napping together.
"Looking at her now, the way that she interacts with Mocha and my dad, she's permanently a part of the family," Jasmine said.
I think it's safe to say that Chai's turn of events is the dream scenario for any stray cat (maybe without the coyote scare, though).
