THE RUT — There's a lot of hype for the upcoming boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
Sure, it'll probably get a lot of attention and Netflix streams, but who knows if it will deliver anything like this recent street fight between two bucks in Davis County.
Krystal Turner became the lucky spectator of the bout, telling KSL on Tuesday that she was driving near the Bountiful Temple when she came across the intense battle playing out on the roadside.
It looks like a one-sided affair at first. The buck initially on the left bulldozes through his competitor, but the tables turn pretty quickly. Soon the second buck flips the script and pushes the first buck down the road. It looks more like a dead heat at the end.
Fights like this are quite common, especially in the season our deer friends are in now.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources points out bucks often engage in "play fighting" as they seek to build a "dominance hierarchy" before the rut, or mating season. This type of activity heats up during the fall rut as equally sized bucks battle each other for "breeding rights."
This fight ended in a draw on my card.
