VIETNAM — There's an ottoman in my family room that I walk past at least a dozen times a day. Since it's so familiar, I barely even notice it. I've probably maneuvered around it thousands of times over the years.
It is, however, downright shocking when something goes awry. Maybe once a year, I stub my toe on the base of the ottoman. The pain of the impact is exacerbated by the fact that I can't believe something so basic in my life has turned into a hazard.
Do you have things like this in your life? Maybe there's a certain stair you trip on every once in a while, or a counter that you bang your hip on?
For the fellow in this video, I'd imagine he rides his motorcycle through that gate regularly. But it didn't quite go as planned on this particular day.
The good news is that this motorcyclist wasn't injured. Thanks to his helmet (and a bit of luck), he was able to ram through the gate and collide with the wall on the other side of the street without requiring a trip to the hospital.
I think this video serves as a perfect reminder of why we should wear helmets. And also why motorcycle rider training is essential.
