COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A bicyclist was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after he was hit by a minivan.

Cottonwood Heights police say about 3:22 p.m., a 28-year-old man was riding a bike north on Highland Drive when he was hit at the Villaire Avenue intersection by a minivan.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

Sgt. Gary Young said the sidewalk in that area has an elevation drop that makes it hard for drivers to see it.

The minivan driver, a man in his 30s, was cooperating with the investigation, police said.
