FARR WEST, Weber County — One person was critically injured after a crash in Farr West on Friday morning, prompting the closure of southbound I-15 for about two hours.

The crash occurred near 2700 North as a Jeep Wrangler was getting onto I-15 southbound when it rear-ended a Ford Explorer in front of it "for an unknown reason," said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden.

"That crash sent the Jeep to the left, across the gore area, into the main flow of I-15 where it got hit by a semi," Roden said. The semi then hit a Kia Optima on I-15, sending that vehicle over the wall and into traffic on I-15 northbound.

The driver of the Jeep, an adult woman who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition.

"They are treating it as if it were a fatal crash, just to document everything," Roden said.

All other occupants of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and were not taken to a hospital.

I-15 southbound, in addition to the left lane on I-15 northbound, was closed for around two hours on Friday before reopening around 10:30 a.m., he said.
