BACKSTAGE — I'm a simple man, and I enjoy simple things. I think vanilla ice cream is a great flavor on its own. I'm pretty content with my vehicle, as long as it runs. Ice water is my beverage of choice, and two squirrels fighting over an acorn in my backyard kept me entertained one afternoon for about 30 minutes.
I'm a fairly uninteresting guy and apparently, it doesn't take too much to entertain me, which is maybe why I like this video so much.
It's just a couple of Foley artists doing their job for Disney, and I love it. A Foley artist makes the different sounds we hear in movies and shows. It's not a glamorous job, but man, is it fascinating. If I was at a neighborhood picnic and someone asked, "What do you do for a living?" I think the conversation would play out like this:
Me: "I actually work for Disney as a Foley artist."
Neighbor: "Wow. Disney. That's great. What does a Foley artist do?"
Me: "I do behind-the-scenes sound effects."
Neighbor: "Interesting. What kind of sound effects?"
Me: "You know in 'Snow White' when the dwarves are tip-toeing around and their leather shoes are squeaking on the hardwood?"
Neighbor: "Sure."
Me: "Well, I pulled out my wallet and bent it back and forth."
Neighbor: (Awkward smile and slowly takes a bite of his hot dog).
Say what you will, but this is awesome, and I could watch it for hours. Or, at least I would, but those squirrels are bickering, again, this time over a half-eaten Snickers my daughter left in the yard, so I'm going to be busy for a bit.
