THE NEIGHBORHOOD — Most of us have had the unpleasant experience of driving on icy roads. Have you ever been on a road so icy that it seemed like you were on an ice rink and your car had ice skates?
My worst drive occurred when I was in high school. I had a Geo Metro at the time, which was a ridiculously small car for someone 6 feet, 7 inches tall. My mom always said that I looked like a clown getting out of a tiny car at the circus.
Anyhow, I hopped in my Metro and headed off to school one morning. The road was so icy that I immediately began spinning in circles. There was nothing I could do to gain even the smallest degree of control. Eventually, I slid off the road and ended up in a snow bank.
That was a scary situation, but I think the one in this video is much more dramatic.
How would it feel, just sliding down the road perpendicular like that? The driver obviously had no control of the situation, but the truck moved along so uniformly that it looked like it was just riding along on a conveyor belt.
I guess the one advantage of a situation like this is that you could potentially slide to your destination and save money on your fuel costs.
