SALT LAKE CITY — Corner Canyon's spot as the unquestioned king of Utah high school football didn't last long after a 28-21 loss to Lone Peak just one week after besting the No. 3 team in the nation.

Here's how the top of the rankings shakes out after a wild Week 3.

1. Lone Peak (3-0)

The Knights dominated the Chargers from the start, jumping out to a 28-7 halftime lead behind quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu. Lone Peak held off a second-half rally to claim this week's top spot.

The win was also the Knights' first and only home game in their first five games of the season, playing at Mountain Ridge next week, followed by a major out-of-state road test against Centennial in Corona, California.

2. Corner Canyon (2-1)

The Chargers came back from a 21-point halftime deficit to cut the losing margin to single digits, but a loss is still a loss.

Helaman Casuga and company host Farmington next week before heading back to northern Utah County to face perennial playoff foe Skyridge in another top-five battle on Sept. 13.

3. Lehi (3-0)

The Pioneers have taken care of business so far this season, starting 3-0 and scoring at least 34 points in every win.

Lehi gets a bye week before one more tune-up at Herriman on Sept. 13, after which the Region 3 gauntlet begins at home against American Fork on Sept. 20.

4. Timpview (1-1)

The T-Birds got an unexpected early bye week after last week's game against Provo was canceled.

The 5A power takes a trip to California this week to get an early shot at Centennial the week before Lone Peak arrives in Corona.

5. Skyridge (2-1)

The Falcons got their second consecutive win over an out-of-state opponent with a home victory against Colorado's Cherry Creek.

They head to Salt Lake County to take on Bingham before welcoming Corner Canyon in two weeks.

6. Bountiful (3-0)

The Redhawks won by a field goal in their final non-region game against Olympus at home.

Region 5 begins for Bountiful this week with two road games, starting at crosstown rival Viewmont and then Bonneville.

7. Brighton (3-0)

The Bengals have started the season in midseason form, holding two opponents to 14 points and putting up 42 points of their own last week against Riverton.

Region 6 play starts this week for Brighton with a home game against Highland.

8. Roy (3-0)

Scoring has not been an issue for the Royals so far this season, dropping 50 and 48 points over the last two weeks, and dominating a solid non-region slate against Farmington, Fremont and Weber.

Roy will start Region 5 play at home against Clearfield, fresh off its first win in three years (but more on that later).

9. Orem (3-0)

The Tigers sneak into the top 10 with a solid road win at Farmington after back-to-back home wins against Utah County powers American Fork and Pleasant Grove.

A quick trip to West Jordan is on deck next for Orem before opening Region 7 play at Wasatch on Sept. 13.

10. American Fork (1-2)

The Cavemen got their first win of the season in impressive fashion at home against West 41-15.

The Riverton Silverwolves will travel to American Fork next as non-region play nears an end.

11. Davis (2-1)

The Darts welcomed Mountain Ridge to Davis County and proceeded to run them back to Herriman with a 40-14 feast.

Davis will host two more Salt Lake County teams in Kaysville, with Kearns and Taylorsville over the next two weeks, followed by a massive region opener at Weber on Sept. 20.

12. Ridgeline (3-0)

The Riverhawks finished a two-week sojourn to the south with a 28-20 win at Stansbury following an overtime thriller against Riverton the week before.

The undefeated Region 11 favorites welcome Cedar Valley to Millville before traveling to the other region contender, Green Valley, on Sept. 13.

13. Mountain Ridge (2-1)

The Sentinels came back down to Earth with a loss at Davis after outscoring their first two opponents by a combined score of 85-14.

Things won't get any easier, either, with the new No. 1 Lone Peak Knights heading out to Herriman this week.

14. Morgan (3-0)

The Trojans finished their three-game home stand to start the season with the "Sky Sweep" of Sky View and Skyline.

The first road trip of the season comes this week to Layton Christian as Morgan looks to remain perfect.

15. Bingham (1-2)

The non-region schedule has not been kind to the Miners as they still search for their first win against a 6A team.

A home game against Skyridge could be a perfect opportunity to prove their mettle and place among the state's best.

16. Weber (2-1)

A tough road loss to Roy dampened Weber's early-season energy, but the Warriors have two more games to prepare for a grueling Region 1 slate beginning Sept. 20 at home against Davis.

17. Olympus (1-2)

The Titans came within a single score of entering region play on a win streak, but will have to now look for a rebound on the road against a West team looking for redemption of its own.

18. Maple Mountain (3-0)

What happened in Vegas won't be staying in Vegas this time, as the Golden Eagles came up big winners against Silverado, 49-6, last week in Nevada.

Maple Mountain welcomes Pleasant Grove this week as it looks to enter region play 4-0.

19. Viewmont (3-0)

The Vikings dominated their non-region slate, albeit without much real competition.

A real test looms this week with a crosstown visit from the Bountiful Redhawks to begin region play in earnest.

20. Northridge (3-0)

Scoring 62 points on the road en route to a 3-0 start will surely get you some attention.

The Knights look to carry the momentum into the start of Region 5 play at home this week against Box Elder.

Plus-1: Clearfield (1-2)

Aug. 20, 2021. That was the last time the Falcons won a football game before last week's win against Jordan, which Clearfield dominated 40-23.

Two winless seasons and 31 losses came in between the two wins for Clearfield, providing ample reason for relief and recognition.

A pair of Tino Rader touchdown runs gave the Falcons a 19-0 halftime lead at Jordan, and a 38-yard pick six from Jayden Peterson helped seal the win at the end of the third quarter.
