SALT LAKE CITY — Another week of high school football has come and gone, with a few shakeups in the rankings.

Lone Peak traveled to California and suffered its first loss of the season. But the Knights remain undefeated in the state of Utah, which is all that really matters. Still, Lone Peak finds itself a little lower in the rankings this week — just two votes short of maintaining the top spot.

Here's how the rankings shake out after Week 5 action.

1. Corner Canyon (4-1)

Welcome back to the top, Corner Canyon. Anything different?

The Chargers went into hostile territory and secured a 10-point win over a tough Skyridge team, due in large part to a 24-yard rushing touchdown by Mason Brady late in the fourth quarter.

Helaman Casuga threw three touchdown passes and ran in another to lift Corner Canyon back to the top if the rankings.

2. Lone Peak (4-1)

Lone Peak found itself in a 14-0 deficit before battling back against one of the best teams in California. The Knights managed a 14-point second quarter to make it a closer game, but the first quarter deficit was too much to overcome as Centennial went on to win 49-35.

3. Lehi (4-0)

Lehi took care of business on the road, beating Herriman 31-7 to remain undefeated this season. Dynamic running back Devaughn Eka finished with two rushing touchdowns, including a late run that went nearly 50 yards for a score.

4. Skyridge (3-2)

Skyridge had its chances against a tough Corner Canyon team, but turnovers became too costly. And the Chargers were more than happy enough to capitalize with 21 points of the team's turnovers.

The most costly came just before halftime when QB Kaneal Sweetwyne was picked off on the goal line in what would have been the go-ahead score.

5. Timpview (2-2)

Timpview wasted little time putting distance between it and region foe Springville in a 45-0 shutout win. Timpview's Braxton Wilkerson set the tone with a 21-yard pick-six score, and Kennan Pula added to the early momentum minutes later with an 83-yard punt return. The rest was just gravy.

6. Roy (5-0)

Roy remains one of the best teams in 5A and is arguably the best in Region 5 — Northridge would like a word — with an early 2-0 start in region play. Robert Young scored three touchdowns en route to a 37-10 win at Box Elder.

7. Davis (4-1)

There's some contenders in Region 1, but Davis appears to be the cream of the crop. Bode Sparrow caught three touchdowns on a night when quarterback Tradon Bessinger threw five touchdowns in a blowout win over Taylorsville.

8. Orem (5-0)

Orem still has to contend with Timpview in region play, but the Tigers are rolling to a 5-0 start to the season. A 37-0 shutout win over Wasatch tells the story of Orem's ability to do it on both sides of the ball.

9. Ridgeline (5-0)

In a rivalry bout on the road, Ridgeline wasted little time showing who the better team in Cache Valley was Friday night. The visiting team went up 18-0 early and never looked back in a 39-21 win to give Green Canyon its first loss of the season.

10. Brighton (4-1)

Everything had been going well for Brighton this season to a 4-0 start to the season. That is until they had to travel to Olympus, where the Titans held serve to win 13-0 to give the Bengals their first loss of the season. Can they respond or was it the crack that ruins a good start to the season?

11. Northridge (5-0)

After dwelling in obscurity for the last couple decades, Northridge is well on its way to showing its back to being a winning football school. The Knights went into Bountiful and upset the perfect season of Viewmont. Northridge returns to south Davis County this week in a tough battle against Bountiful High.

12. Morgan (5-0)

Is there really any stopping Morgan this year? The 3A power isn't messing around this season and dismantled Kearns 63-0 on Friday. Kearns isn't what it used to be, but it's still a 5A team that Morgan handled with ease. Should we crown Morgan 3A champs already?

13. Bountiful (4-1)

After losing its first game of the season to crosstown rival Viewmont, Bountiful bounced back with a 35-19 win at Bonneville. The Redhawks have a tough matchup on their hands this upcoming Friday with a surging Knights team.

14. Maple Mountain (5-0)

Maple Mountain has quietly put together an undefeated season. Eli Mauga sparked the offense with three rushing touchdowns, including two scores late in the third quarter that went for 40 and 37 yards, respectively.

15. Viewmont (4-1)

After upsetting crosstown rival Bountiful at home, Viewmont couldn't keep the momentum going. The Vikings welcomed a hot Northridge team to town and found itself on the losing end of the battle in an 11-point loss at home.

16. Weber (4-1)

It wasn't the most convincing win, but Weber got the job done nonetheless against Granger on Friday. The Warriors have a looming date with Region 1 foe Davis this Friday that will determine much of the pecking order.

17. American Fork (2-3)

It hasn't been the easiest of seasons for American Fork, starting off the year with a blowout loss to Corner Canyon and a narrow loss to Orem. But after bouncing back in the next two games, the Cavemen found themselves in a 16-15 loss to Liberty (Nevada) on the road.

18. Park City (5-0)

Tucked away in the mountains, Park City is quietly going about its business to an undefeated season. The Miners appear to be the favorite out of Region 10 after a 42-24 region win over Murray, but there's still another half to the season to go. But it's been good enough so far.

19. Spanish Fork (4-1)

Welcome back to top-20 life, Spanish Fork. Don't look now, but the Dons have the only 2-0 record in Region 8 play after a comfortable 42-14 win over Mountain View.

20. Layton (4-1)

Layton finds itself with a spot in the rankings after a 4-1 start to the season — its only loss to a hot Northridge rival — after a 24-17 win over West Jordan. The Lancers are in a tough Region 1, but everything looks good so far.

Plus-1: Ogden (5-0)

We usually like to highlight teams here that aren't included in the top 20 but deserve some mention (regardless of record); however, in this case, Ogden is worthy of being ranked and talked about on its own for its record.

So consider Ogden No. 21 if you'd like.

After years of losing records — and some seasons without any wins at all — the Tigers are 5-0 for the first time since the 2009 season. It may have taken 15 years to get here, but what a way to start the 2024 season.

Ogden is unfortunately in Morgan's region — and that Oct. 11 game looms — but we're focusing on the positive right now. The Tigers beat a Preston, Idaho, team 42-26 to keep the winning streak going.
