WASHINGTON — Former president Donald Trump said on Friday he will soon hold another rally in the town where a gunman shot and injured him during a campaign rally nearly two weeks ago.
"I WILL BE GOING BACK TO BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA, FOR A BIG AND BEAUTIFUL RALLY," Trump wrote on social media. He did not give a date for the rally but said to "stay tuned" for details.
At least one attendee was killed and two spectators were critically injured in the assassination attempt, authorities said. The attendee who was killed has been identified as Corey Comperator, a former fire chief. Officials have said that Comperatore spent his final moments shielding his wife and daughter from gunfire at Trump's rally last Saturday in Butler.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House voted unanimously to establish a task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, indicating bipartisan outrage over the Secret Service's handling of the situation.
Trump has a 2 percentage point lead over Democratic U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a Wall Street Journal poll published on Friday, narrower than the 6-point lead in a survey earlier this month over President Joe Biden, who has since withdrawn from the presidential contest.
Trump leads Harris by 49% to 47%, according to the poll of 1,000 registered voters that had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
