ALPINE — Officials on Monday identified the woman who died after being swept away at a Utah County waterfall Friday.
Cynthia Ann Grimwood, 19, of Springville, went hiking with her dog to Horsetail Falls in Alpine on Friday. Around 3 p.m., deputies received a call from two hikers who had found her dog and personal belongings, including a video on her phone showing her walking into the water, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
This prompted an hourslong search for the woman. Her body was located Friday night, but because of safety concerns, her body was recovered Saturday morning.
The sheriff's office said the water level was "abnormally high" and moving fast, and they believe she had gotten into the water and was swept away. The incident is considered a tragic accident, according to the sheriff's office.
