Recruiting: Who has committed to BYU football in the Class of 2024?

PROVO — Recruiting never stops in college football, but there are times when the page turns more than others for BYU and every program alike.

Here is a brief look at who has already committed both from within and outside of Utah, as well as some players on which to keep an eye as the calendar moves from 2022-23 to 2023-24.

Committed recruits

Ephraim Asiata, LB, Herriman HS (West Herriman, Utah)

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker committed to the Cougars over offers from USC, Utah, San Diego State and Tennessee, among others.

Rated the No. 7 prospect in Utah by 247Sports, Asiata is the son of former Utah and NFL running back Matt Asiata who totaled 53 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a senior for the 5-6 Mustangs — just under two years after he was one of three players shot during an incident at Hunter High School, when doctors gave him a 1% chance to live.

Sani Tuala, DL, Citrus College (Sydney, Australia)

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive lineman from Sydney, Australia by way of Citrus College in Glendora, California, totaled 13 tackles and three sacks in nine games as a freshman for the Owls.

Rated the No. 17 JUCO defensive lineman by 247Sports, Tuala also had offers from California, Eastern Michigan, Hawaii and Houston, among others.

Danny Saili, DL, Hutchinson Community College (Topeka, Kansas)

A three-star recruit by 247Sports rated the No. 6 defensive lineman in junior college, Saili flipped his commitment from Texas Tech after BYU made a late push prior to the early signing period.

The 6-foot-2, 355-pound defensive tackle from Topeka, Kansas had offers from Oklahoma, Arizona and Georgia Southern, among others, during a sophomore season when Saili totaled 21 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble in 10 games for the 10-1 Blue Dragons.

Luke Toomalatai, DL, Long Beach City College (Henderson, Nev.)

The 16th commitment to BYU's recruiting class of 2024 came from Henderson, Nevada by way of Long Beach City College, where the 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive lineman totaled 31 tackles, 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble in nine games in 2023.

Rated the No. 82 JUCO prospect in the country by 247Sports, Toomalatai — who prepped at Liberty High in the Las Vegas Valley — also had offers Akron, Coastal Carolina and Houston, among others, before pledging Dec. 14 to the Cougars.

Ikinasio 'Iki' Tupou, OL, Palo Alto HS (Palo Alto, Calif.)

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle committed to the Cougars over a top-five grouping that included Arizona, Cal, Utah and Washington.

A three-star recruit by 247Sports and the No. 87-rated offensive tackle in the class of 2024, Tupou committed as an offensvie lineman but was recruited extensively by defensive tackles coach Sione Pouha and head coach Kalani Sitake, according to 247Sports.

Luke Nadauld, S, Springville HS (Springville, Utah)

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver and defensive back caught 54 passes for 1,167 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons with the Red Devils, including two games of 100 yards or more with eight touchdowns as a junior while playing with BYU freshman Ryder Burton (he caught 33 passes for 629 yards and five scores as a senior in 2023).

Nadauld, an All-Region 7 first-team selection with a 3.9 GPA who also plays basketball, committed to the Cougars over recruiting interest from Utah State and Stanford, among others. He plans to serve a two-year church mission prior to enrolling at BYU.

Blake Lowe, S, Chaparral HS (Temecula, Calif.)

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defensive back/linebacker committed to BYU after taking an official visit Week 11 during the Oklahoma game.

A three-star recruit by 247Sports, Lowe chose the Cougars over offers from Boise State, Arizona and Washington State, among others. A two-sport athlete who also competes in the 100, 200 and long jump during track-and-field season, Lowe totaled 100 tackles and three interceptions as a senior at Chaparral High School.

Devoux Tuataga, DE, Cedar Valley HS (Eagle Mountain)

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound edge rusher had a top five of BYU, USC, Tennessee, Oregon State and Utah before committing Sept. 7 to the Cougars.

Tuataga, a four-star recruit by Rivals, totaled 32 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and 11 quarterback hurries in 10 games last season for the Aviators. He's the eighth-best prospect in the state of Utah in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports, rated No. 621 nationally overall and No. 42 among edge rushers.

Noah Lugo, QB, Eaton HS (Keller, Texas)

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound dual-threat signal caller initially committed to UTSA in June 2023, but reopened his recruitment during a run of visits that included BYU, Indiana, Tulsa, Tulane and Arkansas State, among others. He committed to the Cougars on Aug. 13, 2023.

Lugo, who threw for 1,612 yards and 16 touchdowns while running for 962 yards and 14 scores as a junior, also ran track in high school. He was a Texas 5A regional qualifier as a junior in the 300-meter hurdles, posting times of 39.42, 39.44 and 39.56, in addition to times of 23.64 in the 200 and 53.03 in the 400.

Jonathan Kabeya, CB, Byron Nelson HS (Trophy Club, Texas)

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound defensive back announced his commitment to BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill and cornerbacks coach Jernaro Gilford on Aug. 6, choosing the Cougars over a list of offers that included Arizona State, Indiana, Tulane and Texas State, per 247Sports.

Kabeya, who also plays basketball, took an unofficial visit to BYU in July.

"I really, really love their coaching staff," Kabeya told Dave Campbell's Texas Football before his commitment. "They recently moved into the Big 12, and I feel like they have something special going on."

Therrian Alexander III, CB, Southwest DeKalb HS (Decatur, Ga.)

A three-star recruit by 247Sports, Alexander committed to BYU Aug. 4 over offers from Akron, Army, North Carolina State, Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Southeast Missouri State, Mississippi State and others, per 247Sports.

The 6-foot-3, 162-pound defensive back is also a decorated sprinter, winning three Georgia 4A state championships at Southwest DeKalb in the 400 (46.84 seconds), 4x200-meter relay (1:25.13) and 4x400-meter relay (3:10.55).

Cannon Skidmore, LS, Red Mountain HS (Mesa, Ariz.)

A five-star long snapper by Kohl's with interest from Air Force, San Diego State and Washington (among others), Skidmore committed to the Cougars via social media July 29.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Under Armour All-American who also moonlights at tight end received an offer from BYU special teams coordinator Kelly Poppinga on June 16, he said on Twitter.

Carson Su'esu'e, QB, Granger HS (Salt Lake City)

A 6-foot-5, 200-pound athlete from Concord, California, Su'esu'e transferred to Granger when his family moved to Utah before his senior year of high school, before he committed July 5 to the Cougars. The dual-threat athlete is a three-star recruit and the 16th-ranked prospect in the state of Utah by 247Sports.

A two-year varsity player at De La Salle, Su'esu'e completed 60% of his passes for 766 yards and seven touchdowns with just one interception as a junior, and added 155 yards and seven scores on the ground for the Spartans.

Su'esu'e chose the Cougars over offers from Tennessee, Pitt, Utah and Utah State, among others. He plans to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prior to enrolling at BYU.

Jett Nelson, TE, American Fork HS (American Fork, Utah)

Projected as a tight end, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound pass catcher took his final official visit before his senior year to Provo on the weekend of June 24 and made his commitment shortly thereafter.

BYU was the first offer for the wide receiver who caught 24 passes for 402 yards and three touchdowns in nine games as a junior for the top-40 recruit in the state of Utah by 247Sports.

Ryner Swanson, TE, Laguna Beach HS (Laguna Beach, Calif.)

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound four-star tight end in the 247Sports Composite rankings from Laguna Beach, California, committed to BYU over more than two dozen offers, including a top five that also featured Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and Utah, to give BYU a four-star tight end prospect in consecutive recruiting classes.

The No. 19-ranked tight end nationally by 247Sports, Swanson caught 128 passes for 1,538 yards and 18 touchdowns in 26 games in high school — including 83 catches for 952 yards and 12 scores during a breakout junior season.

Enoch Watson, QB, American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek, Ariz.)

The three-star recruit by On3 and Rivals committed to his first offer, which he calls his "dream school" in BYU as additional recruiting interest from Arizona and a handful of other schools were showing interest in June.

A product of Coconino High in Flagstaff, Arizona, who will transfer to ALA to be coached by former BYU stars Ty Detmer and Max Hall, Watson is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback who also plays basketball and plans to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling with the Cougars.

Tommy Prassas, S, Basha HS (Chandler, Ariz.)

Prepping at the same high school as BYU safety Micah Harper, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Prassas committed to the Cougars over offers from Air Force, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and New Mexico State, according to 247Sports.

Adney Reid, LB, Spanish Fork HS (Spanish Fork, Utah)

The son of former BYU tight end Gabe Reid, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound linebacker from Spanish Fork committed to the Cougars after his parents accepted a call to be mission presidents in Australia in July 2021 (following his freshman year of high school).

Prior to the move, Reid played football, basketball and rugby for the Dons, and was attracting early interest from both BYU and Utah.

Brody Laga, K, Mountain Ridge HS (Herriman, Utah)

A former all-state soccer player who scored 24 goals with five assists in three years before focusing exclusively on football, Laga developed one of the top legs in Utah as a senior at Mountain Ridge and drew interest from Utah State, Oregon State and UCLA, among others.

The 5-foot-10 placekicker handled punts, kickoffs and placekicking duties with the Mustangs, averaging 45.2 yards on 54 kickoffs (net yards: 2,440), 35 yards on 31 punts (net yards: 1,085), and converted 15-of-18 field goals and 33-of-35 PATS with a long kick of 59 yards for 78 points.

Dallin Johnson, DT, Springville HS (Springville, Utah)

A former teammate of BYU freshman quarterback Ryder Burton, Johnson committed to BYU in June 2021 but continued to draw recruiting interest, most notably from Washington State. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound tackle is the No. 15-rated recruit in Utah, according to 247Sports.

"I've been waiting my whole life to make this post and simply couldn't wait any longer," he wrote on Twitter at the time. "There is no place I'd rather be, nowhere. With that being said I'm proud to announce my commitment to BYU football."

Siosefa Brown, DE, Highland HS (Salt Lake City)

Among the early commits in BYU's 2024 recruiting class who reaffirmed his pledge in January, Brown also attracted the attention of Cal, Utah, Utah State and Vanderbilt, among others. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound edge rusher made 24 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in four games as a junior for the Rams, while also totaling 90 receiving yards and a touchdown on offense.
