MONTPELIER, Idaho — The Bear Lake valley's first Latter-day Saint temple will be dedicated on Oct. 18.
A public open house for the Montpelier Idaho Temple will be held from Sept. 10 through Sept. 26 ahead of the dedication, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday.
The temple's dedication will be broadcast to all units within the temple's district. It will be held at 10 a.m. and rebroadcast at 2 p.m.
Once dedicated, the Montpelier Idaho Temple will be the eighth temple in Idaho, with other temples for the Church of Jesus Christ located in Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg and Twin Falls. There is one Idaho temple under construction in Rexburg, the Teton River Idaho Temple, and temples announced in Caldwell and Coeur d'Alene.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple was announced by President Russell M. Nelson in April 2022 at general conference, along with 16 other temples. Ahead of the announcement, he encouraged members to focus on the blessings of the temple to "counter worldly ways."
"Positive spiritual momentum increases as we worship in the temple and grow in our understanding of the magnificent breadth and depth of the blessings we receive there," he said.
