SPRINGVILLE — Human remains were discovered in the mountains above Springville Saturday night, police said.
The discovery prompted investigators Sunday to enter the remote area where the remains were found, said Sgt. Ray Ormond with the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
"Last night, we found possible remains in a remote area of Utah County," Ormond said. "Due to the late hour, poor visibility and terrain, investigators are back in the area to continue the investigation."
A witness found the remains Saturday while riding a horse in the area, according to the sheriff's office. The person couldn't immediately report the remains due to no cellphone service.
Investigators have confirmed that the remains are from a person and are investigating the scene, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
