SALT LAKE CITY — A man from Colorado and a man from Mexico have been indicted on federal charges in separate cases of trafficking drugs in Utah.

Ruben Flores Enriquez, 28, of Mexico, was living in West Valley City when the FBI Wasatch Metro drug task force arrested him while investigating a drug trafficking organization, according to court documents.

On Feb. 23, agents searched his residence and located 1,466 grams of blue counterfeit pills and 9,811 grams of a powder-like substance, both of which tested positive for fentanyl. The agents also located 1,373 grams of methamphetamine and 679 grams of heroin, court documents state.

The drugs amounted to a combined weight of 13,000 pounds, and Enriquez had been residing in the U.S. illegally, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Utah.

Enriquez was charged in federal court with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Salt Lake City on Monday.

Travis Christopher Schultz, 37, of Grand Junction, Colorado, was also indicted this week on the same charges as Enriquez. Schultz was arrested in San Juan County after county deputies suspected he was trafficking drugs during a traffic stop, according to court documents.

A K-9 was deployed on Schultz's vehicle, and deputies located 30 packages wrapped in cellophane, automotive grease and coffee grounds in the bed of his truck and in a hidden compartment. In total, more than 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.3 pounds of blue fentanyl pills, one pound of fentanyl powder and 56 grams of heroin were seized from Schultz's vehicle, prosecutors say.

Schultz is scheduled to appear in federal court in St. George on Monday.
