EAGLE MOUNTAIN — One person has died after a crash involving multiple vehicles on a busy highway in Eagle Mountain, police announced Wednesday.

Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff's Office responded to what they described in a press release as a "severe accident" around 3:40 p.m. between an SUV and a car near 6384 North Eagle Mountain Blvd.

The crash resulted in the car catching on fire, but a sheriff's office deputy was able to get the driver of the burning car out of the vehicle and tried to render aid. That individual, who has not yet been identified, died from their injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The driver and passenger who were in the SUV were both injured and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The sheriff's office did not indicate the status of their injuries.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office said Eagle Mountain Boulevard was closed from state Route 73 to the residential areas, as deputies remained at the scene. Officials did not provide an estimated reopening time.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
