OGDEN — A 14-year-old boy who prosecutors say crashed a stolen car that left two children dead and multiple others injured is being charged with multiple felonies, the Weber County Attorney's Office said Thursday.
An 11-year-old and a 7-year-old died as a result of a crash Friday night in Ogden; eight others were injured in the crash, police said.
About 7:45 p.m. Friday, a 14-year-old evaded officers in a stolen vehicle, after police first tried to stop the vehicle in the 2800 Block of Quincey Avenue.
The teen was booked into the Weber Valley Detention Center after being released from the hospital following the crash.
The 14-year-old was charged with two counts of first-degree felony murder, two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault, second-degree felony theft, and third-degree felony failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop, among other misdemeanor charges.
The teen, whose identity has not been released, is being charged as a juvenile.
The Weber County Attorney's Office said an initial court appearance is expected to occur in juvenile court, though a date has not been set.
"Our thoughts are with the family and community members impacted by this tragedy. We will pursue this case in court and remain committed to a fair and just process for all involved. We ask the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the privacy of the victims," Weber County Attorney Christoper Allred said in a statement.
