WEST VALLEY CITY — A man who police say may have been under the influence of drugs was arrested for allegedly entering a random home with a sword and injuring two people.

Martin R. Espino Camacho, 42, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Tuesday for investigation of aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, causing property damage, public intoxication and assault.

Police say Camacho entered a home at random on Tuesday through an unlocked door and "was holding a large Katana sword" while advancing toward the resident. "The resident was successful in disarming the arrested party and used physical force to take him down to the ground. The arrested party began assaulting the resident, causing scratch marks on their chest and also assaulted another resident by kicking them in their chest, causing minor injury," according to a police booking affidavit.

The residents held Camacho down until police arrived and took him into custody. Officers say he "appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, due to making statements about himself being dead, and also stating that his head was off and stating his head was on all eight dimensions," officers wrote in the affidavit.

Police say the injuries to the residents were superficial.
